Spotlight on Vitamin C: Understanding the Skincare Trend of 2020

It’s time to deep dive into the Vitamin C craze. Here, we unpack it and let you decide if its worth the hype. (Hint - we think so!)

As one of the most tested and reliable antioxidants on the market, we weren’t surprised to learn that Vitamin C was among one of the top searched skincare terms of 2020 as reported by  Beauty Crew.

So we’re deep diving into this powerhouse ingredient to save you countless hours searching for answers. Here, we give you the lowdown on what it is, how to use it and why it should be a staple in your supercharged skincare regime:

What is Vitamin C?

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin found in foods including tropical fruits and leafy greens. It’s an essential nutrient for overall and optimal health that works to repair and restore tissue in all parts of the body.

Many skincare products contain the more potent but much less stable and more irritable l-ascorbic acid. Our serums’ contain Vitamin C in the form of Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate which penetrates deeply and then converts into the bioactive form once it’s in the skin. This  makes our Vitamin C serum much less likely to cause irritation and is more stable in light and air meaning it won’t lose any of its potency over time!

Fun fact: Our bodies don’t naturally produce Vitamin-C (which is why topical application in skincare is a must!)

What does Vitamin C do for your skin?

  • VItamin C is a powerful antioxidant which helps to reduce skin irritation and inflammation, while acting as a topical shield against free radical damage like UV, pollution and other environmental aggressors

  • Promotes collagen production and skin turnover, helping to visibly plump and improve skin texture

  • Fights pigmentation and brightens the appearances of dark spots and dull skin

  • Doubles as an anti-ageing tool, working to smooth fine lines and remedy the lacklustre complexion that often goes with the natural process of ageing

In simple terms, Vitamin-C helps achieve a radiant complexion that so many chase.

Where does Vitamin C fit in a skincare routine?
Vitamin C is in many skincare products, but best used in a concentrated topical format for supercharged results. We recommend applying a few drops of our Vitamin C Brightening Serum morning and evening after cleansing, massaging into damp skin before applying your favourite moisturisers.

Who should use Vitamin C?
As we don’t naturally produce Vitamin C, this one is a great all-round ingredient to favour, but for those specifically looking to remedy a lacklustre, dull complexion - this one’s for you.
