Best Facial Pore Serum

Our skin is covered in tiny hair follicles which contain a pore at the top of them with a gland inside that produces sebum (oil). When the sebaceous gland releases oil it rises to the surface and collects in the pore.

The primary causes of enlarged pores are:

* Excessive sebum: This is when a person’s sebaceous gland produces a lot of oil, and they have oily skin.

* Decreased elasticity around the pore: This is when the skin becomes less supple, and pores appear enlarged.

* Increased hair follicle volume: This is when the pore at the end of the hair follicle becomes clogged.

When oil collects in the pore and combines with dirt or makeup, the pore can become blocked. This stretches the pore, making it look bigger than it is. If the pore remains clogged, a pimple may develop.
How active a person’s sebaceous glands are, depends on their genes. It also depends on the size of their pores.

Having large pores is not a health concern. It may not be possible to get rid of large pores, but most people can reduce their appearance. The best way to do this is to ensure their skin stays supple and their pores remain unclogged.

If a person has oily skin, they should ensure they use products that are water-based. Using water-based products avoids extra oil getting into the pores.

A person with oily skin and large pores should avoid oil-based products. These may lead to excess oil on the skin, making pores appear larger.
Washing the face is basic skin care. But with so many products available, a person may forget just to use warm water and a cleanser.
Having a good face washing habit is essential. Washing the face every morning and evening helps to wash away oil and dirt from the pores, which helps to reduce their appearance.

A person with oily skin should exfoliate once or twice a week. Exfoliating helps to remove things from the pores that can block them like dirt dead skin cells and excess oil.

Look for exfoliating products like our [Resurfacing Serum](https://boostlabco.com/products/resurfacing-serum), which has a lactic acid-arginine complex that helps to release debris from the pores.

The idea of moisturizing oily skin may be counterintuitive. However, it can help to reduce pore enlargement. Moisturising serums like our [Hydro Boost Serum](https://boostlabco.com/products/hydro-boost-serum) hydrate and soften the skin allowing the sebum penetrate deeper which stops the top of our pores becoming clogged with oil.

HAVE A QUESTION?

Skincare for Enlarged Pores

How do you deep clean your pores?

So, can you minimise the size of pores and tighten them up? While pores will never permanently shrink – this is a good thing because they serve an important role in keeping your skin healthy! – you can take steps to keep them clean and reduce their appearance.

* Cleanse: Cleanse your skin once or twice a day to remove things like makeup, oil, dirt and debris that may have accumulated over the course of your day.
* Wear sunscreen: Always apply sunscreen year-round. Sun damage breaks down collagen in your skin, which leads to saggy, enlarged pores.
* Exfoliate: By removing dead skin cells you’ll unclog your pores. Just be gentle and make sure not to overdo it!
* Serum time: Finally, choose the right product for your needs and your skin type.

First, if you need to unclog your pores, natural acids (AHAs) in a Resurfacing Serum will dissolve the connections between your cells and the surface of your skin.

It’s also important to commit to a retinoid, such as in our Night Renewal Serum (an excellent deep pore cleanser). Not only does the Vitamin A smooth out wrinkles and brighten dark spots, it also stops acne and shrinks pores. The increased collagen production while decreasing oil production means you get to enjoy fewer breakouts and tighter pores.

In addition to our Resurfacing Serum and Night Renewal Serum, you’ll also be able to clean out and shrink your pores with our Blemish Rescue Serum. Why? Because of a secret ingredient.

Niacinamide (aka Vitamin B3) is a water-soluble ingredient that is one of the best when it comes to pore treatment. Not only that, but it can tighten saggy pores, even out your skin tone, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, brighten dull areas of your skin, and turn a weak skin surface into a robust and protected layer.

You can explore all of our BOOST LAB products to find the right one for your needs, and get plenty of inspo from our blog to improve your skincare routine and enjoy a better complexion.

Do pore vacuums really work?

We’ve all been scrolling Instagram or Tik Tok and seen an influencer showcasing the ‘amazing’ before and after results of using a pore vacuum. While pore vacuums do use suction to extract dirt, debris and excess sebum from the skin the minimise blackheads, they’re not a great long term solution. Despite your best efforts with a pore vacuum to minimise congestion they will eventually re-fill again. This is why you need a clinically supported topical option to help you address the root causes of blackheads, pimples and enlarged pores. To keep your pores clean and happy you need acne-fighting ingredients like niacinamide, retinols, zinc, alpha-hydroxy acids etc.. All of which can be found in our best pore cleanser serums, Resurfacing Serum, Night Renewal Serum and Blemish Rescue Serum

Are pore vacuums bad for skin?

Pore vacuums aren’t necessarily the best for pore skin treatment but they can work well for immediate blackhead removal as long as you’re gentle! Concentrating the vacuum on one spot for too long can lead to bruising or increased sensitivity and inflammation. If you have sensitive skin, rosacea or inflamed acne it's best to skip pore vacuums and stick to a serum based pore treatment with and consider seeing a dermatologist.
